It's a Wrap!

Last fringe tied last night -- this scarf for my son is finished!  Along with his dad & I, it's waiting for him to come home for an all too brief Thanksgiving vacation.

The scarf started with some yarn on sale at Wooly Bully Yarns in Leavenworth.  What's a pseudo Bavarian vacation without a little yarn shopping?  I bought the beige and variegated yarns at their closing sale -- though it looks like Wooly Bully might still be hanging around -- the web site shows classes scheduled for this fall.  Good!  I added the black and gold yarns when I decided to do the vertical stripes.

I used Stephen West's Creekbed scarf as a jumping off point.  My scarf is made of thicker yarn, my chevrons are smaller, my stripes are different - and I decided to finish it with tassels.  I'd read somewhere that this was a good idea for a vertical striped scarf -- but for the life of me, I couldn't find any suggestions for how to make the tassels when I was done.  What I did was to leave about 6 inches of yarn at the beginning and end of each row -- when I was done, I snugged things up and tied each stripe (about 4 strands) together in an overhand knot.   One or two of the stripes were very narrow, so I added an extra strand of yarn before I tied it.
