Is it finished?

The roman shades in my dining room are finished.  As you can see, I chose the fabric with the trees, and, I don't know if you can see them, but there are birds as well.

Here's an action shot, lowering the shade.

And another shot of it closed.

I made the roman shades with instructions from this book,

which I've used several times over the last 20 years or so.  The shades don't require a lot of sewing, in fact, in some respects they're simple.  But because everything needs to be straight, and even, and fit the window, they're not easy. It did take extra long to finish these, because my sewing machine broke in the middle of the project.

And the last (I think) finishing touch is this picture by Mary Beier.   My husband and I were charmed by her work at a local art show.  It turns out to be a little modern for the room, but it makes us happy.  That's one of my most important criteria for decorating -- I choose what pleases me.

  1. Gorgeous work on the shades! I really like the Mary Beier picture, too. I she a local artist?

  2. I LOVE your dining room. It is happy and restful. I am now, officially, inspired to Do Something about my own - tired - dining room. Love the shades. (I have that sewing book, too! It has seen me through many a renovation.)

  3. Wow - those shades look great! I love the fabric. I've tried making roman blinds before, but always had trouble. I'm going to check out your book because I'd like to make them for our dining area too.

I also love your new painting acquisition! It makes me happy too.

    Best wishes!
