A new book and back to Am Kamin

Now that I'm done with the mittens, I'm working on Am Kamin again. It's been too long since I set it aside. I'm nearing a point where I need to make some decisions. Though I'm close, I'm not knitting to the given gauge either by rows or stitches. And, I added some stitches, because the original size isn't quite as generous as I am. So, I need to sit down and do some math. I'm a little nervous about changing this pattern. As you can see if you look closely, I've been following the chart for this sweater, line by line. The patterns all have different repeats. There's a nice chart of the raglan decreases, but it's for the pattern as written. I can do this, I tell myself. But it won't be the fun part of this sweater.

What I have been enjoying, lately, is the book I just finished. It's called Mistress of the Art of Death, by Ariana Franklin. I was fortunate to get a proof through a special offer at the New Yorker. It is, in the words of the Common Reader Catalog's reviewer, a book you can "read read". I stayed awake too long last night, getting to a place I could stop.

If you like historical mysteries, this is quite a good one. It's pretty gruesome, but it was also engrossing. If you like Ellis Peter's Cadfael books, try this one.

Am Kamin looks so intricate -- I do hope you don't have to rip it! It's going to be amazing when it's done.

It sounds like you've discovered a great book -- I love the ones that make you stay up late to finish them!
